ABOUT
LUMUMBA INSTITUTE
Turning awareness into solidarity and action.
WHAT WE
ARE &
WHAT WE
STAND FOR
Lumumba is an institute dedicated to promoting social justice, equality, and human rights through education, advocacy, and community engagement.
Guided by the principles of decolonial justice and climate justice, the institute collaborates with individuals, organizations and communities in a reciprocal practice of solidarity. It actively convenes people across backgrounds, professions and skills to counter Eurocentric narratives and address the enduring influence of colonial power and extractive economics within European institutions. Its work takes the form of interviews, public dialogue and campaigns.
The institute draws its name and purpose from Patrice Émery Lumumba, the Congelese independence leader and first democratically elected prime minister who fought for sovereignty, economic justice, and pan-African solidarity before being deposed in a U.S.-backed coup and murdered under Belgian command.
His legacy — a direct challenge to colonialism and a call for global solidarity — guides the institute's focus on decolonial and climate justice and international solidarity today.
