LIFE is a Brussels-based NGO named after Congolese independence leader Patrice Lumumba.
“For a colonized people the most essential value, because the most concrete, is first and foremost the land: the land which will bring them bread and, above all, dignity.“
– Frantz Fanon
The Lumumba Institute for Freedom & Equality is a new Brussels-based NGO named after Congolese independence leader and former prime minister Patrice Émery Lumumba. He fought for social justice, economic independence, and universal human solidarity, but was deposed in a coup d’Etat supported by the United States and subsequently murdered by troops under Belgian command.
We want to act on this legacy and put an end to the continued complicity of European institutions – from the genocide in Palestine to the violent exploitation of the DRC – and ensure universal human rights, decolonial justice and climate equity for all.
„The death of human rights occurs when they are no longer the rights of all, but the privileges of some.“
Hannah Arendt
